5th Grade Band

This is where it all begins! The Reeths-Puffer 5th grade band is the first time students in our school district can be in band. The instruments available
to students are:
Flute, Clarinet, Cornet/Trumpet, Trombone and Percussion. Students are given the Selmer Music Survey, and then we give students an opportunity to try out a couple instruments in a fitting process. Looking at hand size, mouth/embouchure issues etc. A parent information meeting is held and students get their instruments & books. Band is offered as part of our Explore Program, so students will have band three days a week in like instrument classes. We use the Standard of Excellence Red Book I with our students. This has a CD/Computer program with it to enhance learning at home. Private Lessons are available for any level student. Performance opportunities include – the November –“Falling Notes” Concert, held in our RPI Gymnasium to inform parents how the students are doing in the first 6-8 weeks of band. They perform as a band in our District wide Band-O-Rama held usually in March at RPHS and the RPI Spring Band Concert held in the Rocket Centre.
