The Symphonic Band...

is the second of three concert bands at the high school. Its instrumentation ranges from 60-70 members making it the largest of the three high school bands. The Symphonic Band performs advanced high school band literature and has had a successful history at both District and State Band Festivals.

Brian J. Olian

Brian J. Olian is currently in his sixth year as Associate Director of Bands at Reeths-Puffer Schools in Muskegon, Michigan.

Mr. Olian graduated from Michigan State University in 2004 holding a bachelor’s degree in music education and is currently working on a master’s degree in music education from the American Band College in Ashland, Oregon. He is the conductor of the High School Concert Band and Symphonic Band, and assists with the Rocket Marching Band and the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade bands. Mr. Olian also conducts the pit orchestra and has taught private lessons. In addition to his appointment at Reeths-Puffer Schools, Mr. Olian is a member of the conducting faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, a position he has held since the summer of 2005.

Mr. Olian has been a guest conductor with the West Michigan Concert WINDS, and was selected to be the conductor for the 2008 District 7 Honors Band. In 2009, he received the ASBDA's Outstanding Potential Award for early career excellence in band education. Mr. Olian is a member of Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association and the Michigan Competing Bands Association.
